Before Sharpsburg

He enlisted 10 May 1861, at Camp Moore, LA, in Company F, 5th Louisiana Infantry. He was a carpenter, in New Orleans, age 18 when enlisted, and single. He was promoted to Sergeant on 16 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was absent due to wounds to about February 1863, but noted as absent without leave to into June. By July he as carried as a deserter. He was present with his unit May to August 1864, but on sick furlough in September and October 1864. He was captured at Petersburg, VA on 25 March 1865 and forwarded to Point Lookout, MD from City Point, VA on the 28th. He was released on Oath of Allegiance on 15 June 1865.
