He enlisted 24 October 1861 in Company K, 9th Virginia Cavalry.

On the Campaign

He was captured in action at Boonsboro, MD on 15 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was paroled on 19 October 1862. He was absent without leave in July and August 1863, but returned and was promoted to Corporal on 1 April 1864. He deserted on 7 March 1865, took the oath of allegiance, and was furnished transportation to Maryland.
