He was captured in action on 9 September 1862 near Poolesville, MD.

He was exchanged on 10 November 1862. He was on detached service in January and February 1864, absent without leave in July and August 1864, but present on the final roll of 6 October 1864.
After the War
He lived near Bellfair Mills, Stafford County at his death, age 78.
