A mechanic, he enlisted on 12 October 1861 at age 42 as Sergeant in Company I, 9th Virginia Cavalry.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 9 September 1862 at Barnesville, MD.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to Lieutenant on 1 December 1862. He was again wounded (place not stated), in November 1864, and was in hospital. He was paroled at King George Court House on 1 June 1865.

After the War

He was a carpenter.
