He was captured in action on 9 September 1862 near Poolesville, MD, then age 18.

The rest of the War

He was paroled on 27 September and exchanged on 10 November 1862. He was absent without leave from December 1862 through April 1863. He was present with his unit afterward until he was killed in action at White Oak Swamp, VA on 16 August 1864.
