Born in Windham, MA he enlisted at age 22 in Company D, 6th New Hampshire Infantry on 30 October 1861. He was then living in Sandwich.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

He was treated at the Locust Spring hospital on the Geeting Farm near Keedysville, MD but died of wounds on 1 October 1862.
