Born in Petersborough, he enlisted in Company E, 6th New Hampshire Infantry at age 30 on 9 October 1861. He was then a resident of Jaffrey.

On the Campaign

He was severely wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

He was discharged for disability at Concord, NH on 16 March 1863. He was later a Sergeant, Company H, 18th Veteran Reserve Corps.

After the War

He was a member of the Gen. Nathaniel Lyon Post 10, GAR, Vineland, NJ.
