A 23 year old comb polisher in Newburyport, MA, he enlisted on 6 August and mustered as Private, Company B, 35th Massachusetts Infantry on 19 August 1862.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in action at Antietam on 17 September 1862 and died the next day.
