Basic information from Carruth1. An 18 year old resident of Newburyport, MA, he enrolled at Private, Company B, 35th Massachusetts Infantry, and mustered in August 1862. He was in action on South Mountain and at Antietam, where he was wounded in the hand. He served later in the 40th New York Infantry [NY AG Roster Serial 23, for the Year 1900, pg. 386: Age 20 years; Enlisted at New York City, to serve three years, and mustered in as private, Co. B, February 8, 1864; transferred to Co. C, April 28, 1864; letter of company changed to D, July 7, 1864; mustered out with company, June 27, 1865, near Washington, D. C.]
