From Hermann, he enlisted in Company A, 3rd Wisconsin Infantry on 15 June 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.
The rest of the War
He was wounded again, at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863. He was discharged on 1 July 1864 at the expiration of his term of service.
