Before Antietam

From Kekoskee, he enlisted in Company E, 3rd Wisconsin Infantry on 22 April 1861.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again, in action at Chancellorsville, VA (May 1863) and Beverly Ford (June 1863). Transferred to the Veteran Reserve Corps on 15 November 1863. He mustered out on 22 April 1864 at the expiration of his term of service.
