Before Antietam
From Mayville, he enlisted in Company E, 3rd Wisconsin Infantry on 20 May 1861.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antieatam.
The rest of the War
He was discharged for wounds on 20 December 1862, but reenlisted as a veteran on 5 March 1864. He mustered out with his Company on 18 July 1865.
