Before Antietam
From Platteville, he enlisted in Company F, 3rd Wisconsin Infantry on 22 April 1861. He was promoted to Corporal, Sergeant, and First Sergeant (dates not given).
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.
The rest of the War
He was appointed 2nd Lieutenant on 25 July 1865, but not mustered at that rank. He mustered out with his Company on 18 July 1865.
