From Ellenboro, he enlisted in Company F, 3rd Wisconsin Infantry on 21 April 1861. He was promoted to Corporal and Sergeant (dates not given).

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again, at Resaca, GA (date not given - probably 15 May 1864), and died of wounds on 26 May 1864 at Chattanooga, TN.
