He mustered in New Orleans as Private in Company A, First Texas Infantry on 16 May 1861. He was wounded at Gaines' Mill, VA on 27 June 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded again, in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was detailed to the Quartermaster's Department in Richmond, VA in October 1863.
