Before Antietam
From Smeltser, he enlisted in Company F, 3rd Wisconsin Infantry on 22 April 1861. He was promoted to Corporal and Sergeant (dates not given).
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.
The rest of the War
He was again wounded in action at Chancellorsville, VA (1863), Dallas, GA (1864) and Averasboro, NC (1865). He mustered out on 21 July 1865.
