Before Sharpsburg

He mustered in New Orleans as Private in Company B, First Texas Infantry on 16 May 1861. He was assigned to the Litter Corps in Summer 1862.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in the head in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again, in the Wilderness, VA on 6 May 1864 and captured in action at the Darbytown and New Market Roads near Petersburg, VA on 7 October 1864. He was a prisoner until released on 13 May 1865.
