Before Antietam

He came to Philadelphia, PA from Stockport, England, with his parents and brothers in 1847, and they settled near Chester, PA. He was a worker in a textile factory there. About 1856 he moved to Dedham, MA, then Rockville, CT by 1860. He enlisted as Private in Company D, 14th Connecticut Infantry on 16 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was in action with his regiment at the Sunken Road on 17 September at Antietam.

The rest of the War

He was wounded in action at Fredericksburg, VA in December 1862.
