Before Antietam

From Middletown, he enlisted in Company B, 14th Connecticut Infantry on 2 August 1862, mustering as a Private.

On the Campaign

He was knocked unconscious for several hours at Antietam by concussion of an artillery shell "passing through the ground" under him.

The rest of the War

Wounded in action at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863. Promoted to Corporal on 26 April 1864. Again Wounded in action 6 May 1864 in the Wilderness, VA, and on 27 October 1864 at Boydton Plank Road, VA. Mustered out with his Company on 31 May 1865.
