Before Antietam
Age 21, he enlisted in Tremont, PA on 8 October 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company H, 96th Pennsylvania Infantry at Pottsville the same date.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action at Crampton’s Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862 and died of wounds, probably at a field hospital in Burkittsville, the next day.
