Before Antietam

In 1860 he was a 26 year old laborer in Bridgeport in Montgomery County, PA. He enlisted at Treichlersville and mustered in Harrisburg on 24 April 1861 as a Private in Company C, 10th Pennsylvania Infantry for 3 months' service. He mustered out with them on 31 July 1861. He enlisted again, on 23 September 1861 in Company H, 96th Pennsylvania Infantry. He was listed with blue eyes, fair complexion and light hair, and stood 5' 7" tall.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action at Crampton’s Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.
