Before Antietam

He enlisted at age 22 at Lykenstown, PA on 13 September 1861 and mustered as a Private in Company G, 96th Pennsylvania Infantry in Pottsville.

On the Campaign

He was wounded by a gunshot to his left leg and ankle in action at Crampton’s Gap on South Mountain on 14 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was admitted to the US Army General Hospital at Camp A in Frederick, MD on 4 October and was furloughed on 16 January 1863. He was discharged on a Surgeon’s Certificate later in 1862.
