He enlisted 11 July and mustered as 2nd Sergeant, Company G, 12th South Carolina Infantry on 29 August 1861.
On the Campaign
He was commissioned 2nd Lieutenant on 22 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He was captured in action in the Wilderness, VA on 6 May 1864 and held (as one of the "Immortal 600") on Morris Island, SC, then at Fort Delaware. He was released on 16 June 1865.
After the War
He moved to Marshall County, AL.
