Before Sharpsburg

He mustered in New Orleans as Private in Company B, First Texas Infantry on 16 May 1861. He was detailed as a teamster in the Spring of 1862 and was wounded at Gaines' Mill, VA on 27 June 1862 - his "finger shot off".

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in the arm in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was on wounded furlough through at least September 1862 and listed as absent without leave in May 1863.
