Before Antietam

He enlisted at age 33 in Rochester, NY, to serve three years, and mustered in as Private, Company H, 78th New York Infantry on 11 January 1862. He was appointed 2nd Lieutenant on 12 April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was killed in action on 17 September 1862 at Antietam.

The rest of the War

He was promoted to First Lieutenant on 24 October 1862. He was discharged for disability on 20 April 1863. After recruiting about 150 men, he enrolled 29 August 1863, and mustered on 4 September as Captain, Company B, 14th New York Heavy Artillery. He was again discharged for disability, on 12 August 1864.
