Before Sharpsburg

He mustered as Captain in Company C, 2nd Florida Infantry on 13 July 1861. He was "in all principal battles of the Army of Northern Virginia". He was wounded in action at Seven Pines, VA on 31 May 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded again, in action at Chancellorsville, VA in May 1863, and at Gettysburg, PA in July. Where he was captured. He wa held at Johnson's Island, OH until exchanged in October 1864. He was promoted to Major and Lieutenant Colonel in 1863 and to Colonel in 1864. He mustered out on 9 April 1865.

After the War

He was in the Florida House of Representatives from 1881-83.
