Born Granville L Hall, he probably changed his name to Gage about the time of his marriage in June 1852. He enlisted on 29 or 30 March (or 7 April) 1862 in Rusk County, TX, and mustered as a Private in Company C, First Texas Infantry.

On the Campaign

Originally listed as wounded, he was killed in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

His service from Davis,1 Simpson,2 who says he was killed outright at Sharpsburg, and his Compiled Service Records,3 online from fold3, as G.L. Gage. His first name and wound detail also from a 22 September casualty list by Lt. Col. Work published in the Galveston News of 1 November 1862. Details from family genealogists.

He married Luvinia Adeline Robinson/Robertson (1837-1927) in June 1852 and they had 4 children together, the last, daughter Hesta, born about 1862.
