He enlisted in Texas in Company C, First Texas Infantry on 7 April 1862 in Texas.

On the Campaign

He was mortally wounded in the leg and captured in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His leg was amputated and he died of wounds on 20 September 1862 at the Stone House field hospital on the Samuel Poffenberger farm at Sharpsburg, and was buried on the grounds.
