Before Sharpsburg

He attended the Georgia Military Institute in Marietta in 1856. By then a farmer, he enlisted in Company K, 5th Florida Infantry in April 1862.

On the Campaign

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

Transferred to be Captain, Company B, 1st Florida Cavalry, to date from 6 August 1863. He was again wounded, in action at Dalton, GA in August 1864 in command of that Company. He was absent until late 1864, and was paroled at Tallahassee, FL on 10 May 1865.
