He enlisted 26 May 1861 and mustered as Private in Company D, First Texas Infantry on 6 June in New Orleans.

On the Campaign

He was severely wounded in the arm action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

His arm was amputated and he went home to Texas as disabled on 23 May 1863.
