He served in Captain Pickett's Company, Florida Mounted Volunteers during the Seminole Indian Wars (likely sometime between 1855-58). He mustered in to Company I, 8th Florida Infantry on 14 May 1862.

He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
Mustered out 9 April 1865.
After the War
His pension from Seminole War service was increased by the US Congress in 1907 to $16 per month.
