He was an unmarried 21 year old lawyer from Arbuchoochee, AL when he enlisted as Private on 26 April 1861 in Company A, 4th Alabama Infantry.

Present in action on South Mountain and at Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

Transferred to Company K, 44th Alabama Infantry on 24 October 1862 by election as Junior 2nd Lieutenant. Promoted to Captain 2 July 1863 at Gettysburg, PA. He was wounded in action in the Wilderness, VA on 5 or 6 May 1864, and killed in action at Darbytown Road (or Chaffin's Bluff), near Richmond VA on 7 October 1864.
