He was an unmarried 18 year old clerk from Selma, AL when he enlisted as Private on 26 April 1861 in Company C, 4th Alabama Infantry.
On the Campaign
He was wounded in action on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
Present with his Company in action in most engagements at least through the Knoxville Campaign of 1863. He transferred to the 4th Alabama Cavalry on 20 December 1863.
