He was an unmarried 18 year old clerk from Tuscaloosa, AL when he enlisted as Private on 23 March 1862 in Company C, 4th Alabama Infantry.

The rest of the War
Promoted 3rd Lieutenant and transferred to Company H, 25th Alabama Infantry, June 1863. Wounded at Missionary Ridge on 25 November 1863. Mustered out in 1865.
