Before Sharpsburg

From Marion County, TX, he mustered as Private in Company D, First Texas Infantry on 6 June 1861 in New Orleans. He was promoted to 3rd Sergeant, date not given, and wounded at Malvern Hill, VA on 1 July 1862.

On the Campaign

He was slightly wounded in the arm and foot in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.

The rest of the War

He was wounded 3 times at Chickamauga, GA, 18-20 September 1863, including by gunshot through the chest. He was deemed disabled and assigned as a hospital nurse and was paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 12 April 1865.
