He was an unmarried 18 year old farmer from Harpersville, AL when he enlisted as Private on 23 March 1862 in Company C, 4th Alabama Infantry.

Present in action on South Mountain and at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He was wounded in action at Gettysburg, PA on 3 July 1863. Present with his Company in action in most engagements at least to the siege of Petersburg in 1864.
