On the Campaign

He was seriously wounded (and initially thought to have been killed) in action on 17 September 1862 while acting Regimental Adjutant.

The rest of the War

He resigned 3 February 1863.

Service information from Davis1 and Simpson,2 who says he was appointed Regimental Adjutant on 12 July 1862. Colonel Work refers to Shropshire as acting adjutant at Sharpsburg in his Report.
