Before Sharpsburg

He was an unmarried 19 year old student from Uniontown, AL when he enlisted as Corporal on 25 April 1861 in Company D, 4th Alabama Infantry. He was in action at Seven Pines, VA 31 May - 1 June 1862.

On the Campaign

He applied to be relieved by substitute in September 1862 at Martinsburg, VA.

The rest of the War

He was discharged at Winchester, VA later in the month - substitute E. P. Harris supplied. Re-enlisted in the Cadet Corps, 7th Alabama Cavalry in the same year at Pollard, AL, and continued until the end of the War.
