He was an unmarried 27 year old bookkeeper from Huntsville, AL when he enlisted as Private on 26 April 1861 in Company F, 4th Alabama Infantry. Present with his Company in action in most engagements from First Manassas to South Mountain.

He was killed in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
