Before Sharpsburg
He was an unmarried 20 year old railroad conductor from Huntsville, AL when he enlisted as Private on 28 April 1861 in Company F, 4th Alabama Infantry. He was present with his Company in engagements from Malvern Hill to Second Manassas, VA. Appointed Orderly (First) Sergeant on 4 July 1862.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action on 17 September 1862 at Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
He was "left in the hands of the enemy, presumed to have died."
