He was an unmarried 29 year old student from Marion, AL when he enlisted as Private on 29 May 1861 in Company G, 4th Alabama Infantry at Harpers Ferry, VA. He was present at most engagements of 1862 from Eltham's Landing to Second Manassas, VA.

On the Campaign

Present in action at Boonsboro and Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

He was appointed First Sergeant in 1862, date not given. In action with his Company from Gettysburg, PA, in July 1863 at least to the siege of Petersburg in late 1864, having been wounded in action in the Wilderness, VA on 6 May 1864. He was surrendered at Appomattox Courthouse, VA on 9 April 1865.

After the War

In the 1880 and 1890 Census he was living in Cunningham, AL.
