He was an unmarried clerk from Brydlon (?), Brunswick County, VA when he enlisted as Private on 24 April 1861 in Company G, 4th Alabama Infantry. He was present at most engagements from First to Second Manassas, VA.
On the Campaign
Present in action at Boonsboro and Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
In action with his Company at Fredericksburg, VA in December 1862, and on the Gettysburg Campaign in July 1863. He transferred to the 3rd Virginia Cavalry on 11 October 1863.
