He was a married 19 year old farmer from Marion, AL when he enlisted as Private on 24 April 1861 in Company G, 4th Alabama Infantry. He was present at most engagements from First Manassas to Malvern Hill, VA.

Present in action at Boonsboro and Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

In action with his Company from Fredericksburg, VA in December 1862 through the Siege of Petersburg in late 1864. He was promoted to First Corporal on 1 July 1864. He was paroled at Appomattox Court House, VA on 9 April 1865.
