Before Sharpsburg
He was an unmarried 20 year old student from Marion, AL when he enlisted as Private on 24 April 1861 in Company G, 4th Alabama Infantry. He was present at most engagements from First to Second Manassas.

Present in action at Boonsboro and Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
In action with his Company from Fredericksburg, VA in December 1862 through Chickamauga and Chattanooga in 1863. He was detailed as a provost guard on 3 January 1864. He was among the soldiers surrendered 9 April 1865 at Appomattox Courthouse, VA.
After the War
He married in Allen, KS in 1870, and was a grocer living in Humbolt, KS at the 1870 US Census. He does not appear with his family there at the 1880 census.
