He was an unmarried 26 year old saddler from Marion, AL when he enlisted as Private on 23 August 1861 in Company G, 4th Alabama Infantry at Manassas, VA. He was present at most engagements from Seven Pines to Second Manassas in 1862.

Present in action at Boonsboro and Sharpsburg.

The rest of the War

In action from the Gettysburg Campaign through Chickamauga and Chattanooga in 1863. He was severely wounded on 11 October 1863, place not given. Detailed to the Ordnance Department 20 September 1864.
