He was an unmarried 23 year old printer from Florence, AL when he enlisted as Private on 26 July 1861 in Company H, 4th Alabama Infantry at Camp Bee, VA. He was present at most engagements from Eltham's Landing to Second Manassas.

Present in action at Boonsboro and Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
In action from Fredericksburg, VA in December 1862 through to Knoxville, TN in later 1863.
