He was an unmarried 28 year old farmer from Westmoreland, AL when he enlisted as Private on 26 July 1861 in Company H, 4th Alabama Infantry at Camp Bee, VA. He was present at most engagements from Eltham's Landing to Second Manassas, VA.

Present in action at Boonsboro and Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
In action from Fredericksburg, VA in December 1862 through the Gettysburg Campaign of 1863. Dropped from the roll on 12 December 1863 as a deserter.
