He was an unmarried 19 year old farmer from Florence, AL when he enlisted as Private on 28 April 1861 in Company H, 4th Alabama Infantry. He was present at most engagements from Eltham's Landing to Second Manassas, VA. Promoted to 3rd Sergeant on 1 April 1862.
On the Campaign
Present in action at Boonsboro and Sharpsburg.
The rest of the War
Reduced to Private on 15 December 1862. In action from Fredericksburg, VA in December 1862 through to the siege of Petersburg, VA in 1864.
