He was an unmarried 24 year old farmer from Rogersville, AL when he enlisted as Private on 28 April 1861 in Company H, 4th Alabama Infantry. He was present at most engagements from Eltham's Landing to Second Manassas, VA.
On the Campaign
Present in action on South Mountain, and wounded in action at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
He lost his right eye and was discharged on a Surgeon's Certificate of disability, date not given.
