Before Sharpsburg
In 1860 he was a 29 year old miller in Danville, married with 3 small children, and on 14 May 1861, he enlisted as a Private in the Danville Artillery. He was appointed 3rd Sergeant on 13 July 1861.
On the Campaign
He was mortally wounded in action on Nicodemus Heights at Sharpsburg on 17 September 1862.
The rest of the War
Tended by his brother Peyton, he died of wounds overnight on the field.
